Yesterday we brought you the news that Sankeys Ibiza would not be reopening its doors in Playa d’en Boss this summer. We also told you that there were a number of rumours circulating around the island and that an announcement on the venue’s future was imminent.
Well, it turns out we were right and today it has been confirmed that the Playa d’en Bossa venue will be the home to Ibiza’s newest club, Octan. Like a phoenix rising from the flames, Octan has submerged from the void left by Sankey’s to give the people of Bossa another clubbing option.
We all loved Sankeys, it had an underground vibe that can be quite hard to find in Ibiza and, thankfully, Octan have confirmed they will be keeping this element of the venue alive, with the onus being placed on dark rooms with subtle lighting installation and finely tuned sound systems.
Ibiza regular Ryan O’Gorman has been named as the new club’s musical director, the Irishman will be joined Stephan Ghenacia, Lindsey Matthews and Kellie Allen as the club’s first resident DJs. The new music policy will cater to many different tastes with more information to be released in the coming weeks.
Preparation work on the new club has only just begun, but we can confirm that the team will be involved in collaborations with a number of creatives, including street artists, light artists and AV artists. The idea is to let the venue act as a blank canvas for these people and give them an area and platform to share their work. It’s a pretty unique experience for Ibiza and we’re really excited to see how it turns out later in the summer.
Octan has also confirmed that they are actively seeking artists to get involved with this project and have advised that anyone who feels they have something to offer can contact them via firstname.lastname@example.org with the word ARTWORK in the subject line with some examples of your work. This is a great opportunity to showcase your work and be involved in a very exciting new venture so if you feel you have something to offer get in touch today.
So, you’re probably wondering when the club will be opening. Well, we can confirm the official opening of Octan will be on Sunday 7 July and to welcome in the new era of Playa d’en Bossa clubbing we have the one and only Warriors returning to the venue where they made their name. Bossman Steve Lawler will be joined on the night by Fuse residents Enzo Siragusa and Seb Zito, while rising star Ben Stirling will round of the lineup for one of the island’s most anticipated nights of the summer.
