Ibiza has long been known as a hotbed for the biggest and best dance tracks in the world. Love them or hate them, if a track makes it to the dancefloors in Ibiza you’re probably going to be listening to them in clubs all over the world for the next twelve months. So, for no other reason than we can, we’ve put together a list of five songs that you definitely won’t hear at an Ibiza closing party this year.
Cartoons – Witch Doctor
These powerhouses of Danish pop released their timeless classic Witch Doctor in 1998. Making it all the way to number 2 in the UK chart, Witch Doctor unfortunately hasn’t survived the test of time and you’ll be very unlikely to hear any DJs play it at a closing party this year. Although, we can always hope.
REM – Everybody Hurts
While REM front man Michael Stypes remains the world’s favourite aids victim impersonator, the band’s 1992 release Everybody Hurts is not known for it’s atmosphere building or crowd pleasing qualities. Making it one of the most unlikely songs to feature at an Ibiza closing party this year.
Rolf Harris – Two Little Boys
There’s nothing like a good shaming to categorically rule your music out of featuring at an Ibiza closing party and, when it comes to shamings, you don’t get many bigger than Rolf Harris’s. The disgraced Aussie’s 1969 hit, originally written in 1902 by Harry Lauder, Two Little Boys hasn’t got a snowball’s chance in hell of getting any airplay at this year’s closing parties.
B*Witched – C’est La Vie
A personal favourite in the Ibiza Club News offices, B*Witched took the world by storm with their classic 1998 hit single C’est La Vie. The Irish four piece had the world at their feet and but for some poor management decisions we could be watching them perform at this year’s closing parties. Rumours of a Deep House comeback album failed to come to fruition and, alas, the girls will forever be in our memories and not on the terraces of Ibiza’s super clubs.
Barry Manilow – Mandy
If Bilbo Baggins and the art of plastic surgery had sex and concieved a baby, Barry Manilow would inevitably be the end result. The baby faced eighty year old has been responsible for some of the world’s best known songs, none more so than his 1974 smash hit Mandy. While mandy will be very popular at Ibiza closing parties this year we don’t think it’ll be of the Barry Manilow variety, unfortunately.
