Techno as a whole has been one of the leading dance music genres for as long as it’s been a thing. Originating from Detroit in 1988, the genre has gone in and out of different trends and is, without doubt, the face of dance music on a global scale.
In saying that, when it comes to techno there’s a whole range of sub-genres that come with it, as with house & disco etc. Some of the subs include melodic, industrial, acid, dub, minimal and more. We’re here today to take a look at some of the techno acts on the rise from all of the above subs!
Kruger
London based DJ/producer Kruger has been quite the stand-out figure on the techno scene. Recognized for his extraordinary style of fluid, progressive, tech house & of course techno, he’s got quite the ear for what he does.
Being influenced in his earlier days by the likes of Sasha, Digweed, Sander Kleinenberg, Dave Seaman and many more, he began his swift journey on the local scene, including sets at university bars and student parties. In saying that, Kruger drifted away from the lower end of things and secured residencies across the country and landed slots on some of the top radio shows.
Fast forward a couple of years, Kruger is now a certified successful student from Point Blank Music School and has gone on to play some of the top clubs London has to offer, including Egg & Ministry of Sound.
Not too long ago, Kruger released his first EP titled ‘Displacement‘ which made its way to the well-respected label known, Mini Vibe Records.
Expect to see this man’s name across many of the top shows in Ibiza and abroad in 2019!
Nitetales
Considered to be one of the finest selectors in Ireland, crossing over from genres of deep house, deep techno and electronic disco, Nitetales is truly recognised for his knowledge of the deep and groovy techno side of things.
Having been apart of our Ibiza Club News World Tour back in February, Nitetales has gone on to really put a stamp on the Irish dance music scene. Making waves with his own Deep Discoteca parties across the island plus global Phever Radio show, he has headlined The Red Bull Tropical Garden at Electric Picnic along with residencies in Irish music institute Pygmalion and with his concept night “Nitetales Plus One” in IRO Nightclub. He has a number of of performances in Ibiza already under his belt, with regualr appearances in Eden last summer with Moments of Ibiza for both the Renaissance and Yoshitoshi parties.
As of late, on the production side of things, Nitetales is still somewhat fresh, but his ability shone through almost instantly landing him two signings on labels HEAVY & Deeplomatic Recordings. In saying that, he also gained a number 1 in the Progressive House charts on Traxsource with his track Time Theft. We have heard that heavyweights Joris Voorn and Anthony Pappa are supporting his music.
Plenty of big things to come from this guy in 2019.
Dean Elso
Energetic, enthusiastic, hardworking and consistent is what comes to mind when you hear Dean Elso!
Having been a key figure to the growth of the Irish dance scene in the past 4 years, Elso is no new-comer to some of the country’s finest venues, including Trinity Nightclub, Maynooth, The Wiley Fox and Berlin D2, both in Dublin. Not only was he a headline figure to most shows but has also supported in-demand names like Tommy Vercetti, Loco & Jam and Daithi.
As much as Dean enjoys the DJing side of things, his true colours and passion shine through his productions. Having said “I do it all day every day, one of my main drives is the interest in seeing how far I can push myself and my productions”, Elso takes inspiration from events and adventures in his life. In saying that, he grabbed himself a mega signing under his own imprint, All Access Recordings.
Speaking more on All Access Recordings, he’s brought the same name to his very popular show on one of Ireland’s most popular radio stations, Phever FM, with the All Access Radio Show, playing out all things techno.
With the graft and affection this man has towards what he does, it won’t be long until you see him appear in a town near you.
Yotam Avni
Originating from Tel Aviv, Israel, Yotam Avni has crossed over from one of the more unrecognized top emerging techno artists to being a full-on in-demand artist.
From his career beginning at the tender age of 19, he has achieved an absolute bundle of stuff, including making experimental music for Modern Ballet, music journalism and securing a residency in his hometown’s leading club nights.
Regardless of his young age, Avni took his passion and knowledge to create one of the top techno nights the city has to offer, AVADON.
Rewind to 2015, Yotam got signed to Josh Wink’s label, Ovum Recordings, and of course the main track of the EP ‘This Is How’ became one of the top sellers on Juno. From there, it was voted to be one of the best track of 2015.
This man is swiftly becoming one of the legends of dance music as we know it.
Andrew Clark
With years of experience comes an artist unlike many. Andrew Clark aka “The world’s strongest DJ” originating from Munich, Germany, has been the face of many headline shows around the world. With a strong focus on straight up good music and no frills, Clark lets the music do the talking. Gaining inspiration from artists such as Solomun, Kölsch, Roger Sanchez, Eric Prydz & more, Andrew takes the core elements of what these artists have to offer and turns them into something in his own unique way.
From playing in numerous club shows all across the world, some of his most perceived achievements are his appearances in Munich’s Pacha Nightclub, Sea You Festival & Rosewood Festival, which have all been a key part to the growth of his name.
As Clark DJ’s though, it’s not just a usual look in the DJ booth. Andrew brings a full gladiator costume to accompany his in-depth 4 deck mixing.
Alongside his DJing career, Andrew has a strong back catalogue of tracks haven remixed and edited many classics, he’s knee deep in curating some of his original productions and collabs with some of the finest Germany has to offer.
DøC
Døc’s story of becoming a DJ is quite an amazing one, to say the least. At the age of fifteen, as a mischievous young teenager, he decided he wanted to sneak into a club to get an experience of what a club is like. From the moment he walked into the club, he became hooked on the whole feeling, atmosphere and everything that came with the experience. After visiting the club, he made it clear to himself that the next time he comes back, he will be DJing. As the years progressed, he came back and of course achieved a very successful residency there.
With that, he’s now got twenty years of experience in music. What he’s really recognized for though is his ability to infuse different elements of techno, whether it being deeper stuff or even the more techy side of things. From traveling all around his home country of Ireland, playing the biggest venues and festivals, he’s also been a key part to some international gigs including appearances in The Warehouse Project, London, and Sankeys, Ibiza.
Not only is he extremely busy on the DJ front, but he also has a catalog of releases in the pipeline. Tieing in a couple of releases to Suro Recordings with his collaboration featuring Marc de Pulse, he’s also received some international praise from Nick Warren, Seth Troxler, Richie Hawtin, Joris Voorn, Betoko, Frankie & Sandrino, bOg and loads of others.
