Ibiza Rumour Mill: Say Bye Bye To Sankeys

Avatar

Just when we thought we’d finally get our heads down and do some relaxing for the winter, by which I mean partying in a different and considerably colder climate, the Ibiza Rumour Mill kicks into full effect and wakes us up quicker than a next door neighbour’s house party at 6am on a Sunday morning. This week’s topic is once again Playa d’en Bossa’s favourite underground venue, Sankeys.

It’s certainly no secret that the club has been going through a bit of a crisis in recent years, with this season probably the quietest we’ve seen the place since it opened. So, taking that into account, it is sure to be the source of many rumours this winter and we’re fully expecting them to rumble on right up until the point where the club is ready to open next May.

However, the latest rumour we’ve heard through the Ibiza grape vine is very juicy and intriguing one indeed! According to one drunk seagull outside The Ship Inn, the source of at least 98% of our rumours, Sankeys is set to be a thing of the past. That’s right, or at least rumoured, Ibiza could be a Sankeys free zone in 2019.

If the Seagull, let’s call him Mr Whitey Yellowbeak to protect his true identity, is right, we could see a major shift in the venue’s fortunes next summer. Could a complete rebrand, coupled with some fresh ideas and parties be the catalyst for something truly beautiful for the Bossa venue? It’s fair to say we’ve all witnessed some really great nights, accompanied by marbles which were well and truely lost, in the famous basement and we really don’t think it would take much to bring those glory days back to the club.

So what next? Well, with this being a rumour mill, we really don’t know and anything we write is merely speculation but, and there’s always a but, we have heard from a number of less-than-reliable sources that the club could be set to be taken over by a conglomerate of British promoters who are already active on the island.

If this is true, and a group of promoters are teaming up to take over the club, we’re likely to see an Ibiza version of musical chairs happening over the winter as brands reshuffle themselves to new homes and venues. The thoughts of which is making us genuinely giddy with excitement. Just think of the mileage we’ll get out of all these lovely rumours!¬
