Introducing: Fit For Purpose

Radio Team

Ibiza Club News Radio has been bubbling around in the background for quite a few weeks now. Testing, plotting, dancing to ourselves, preparing for a long winter of great music leading into hopefully the return of summer in 2021. As we celebrate our official launch, it’s time to get to know the residents. This time around, we chat to Fit For Purpose…

Hey! Nice to meet you. What’s your name?

Fit For Purpose

What made you want to be a DJ?

I always knew there was a deep connection between myself and dance music. I was just seven or eight years of age when I asked my mum to purchase one of the “Bonkers” albums by DJ Hixxy and Sharky. She thought I was disturbed, but I knew from then that dance music would play a big part in my life.

What are your top 5 tunes EVER? We’ll be secretly judging you, so they better be good.

Deadmau5 – Strobe
Yotto feat Vok – The one you left behind
Yoda inc – Definitely (Scott Project Remix)
Alan Fitzpatrick – We do what we want
Camelphat – Constellations

Whats your favourite club and why?

I lived in Munster, Germany, for two years, and there was a club called Go Parc. I have no idea if it is still open as I left Germany in 2008, but it was outstanding. The memories I have from seshing there will forever stay with me (Plenty of blackouts too but I am confident I still had a great time). I never once experienced any trouble whilst there, just a group of people who were in it for the moment. Pure bliss.

Tell us your favourite thing about being a DJ?

For me, it’s the journey. The getting up on stage is the final piece to the puzzle, but I also love the whole process beforehand. The crate digging trying to find those precious gems, the hours and hours spent by yourself perfecting your craft, those moments when you hear an absolute banger on the radio, and you frantically try and get your phone out to shazam the life out of it. I can put a set together in minutes by dragging tracks that are key matched, but it’s those sets that have taken me hours and hours of dedicated work to perfect that have provided me with the most fulfilment.

What advice have you been given in life that you found useful?

Measure yourself by your own standards and never sell your soul to get ahead in life.

Lockdowns have been awful for dance music, if you had to make a bet – how do you see 2021 playing out?

It hasn’t been a good time for the up and coming DJ’s during this Pandemic, and I wish everyone the best moving forward. I have my reservations in how I see 2021 turning out, but I would love to see the community helping one another when we finally start returning to normal. From DJ’s, to managers, to promoters, to nightclub owners. A bottle of water in some clubs costs the same as a succulent 18oz rib-eye steak. That madness needs to stop for a start haha! What I know for sure is that dance music will never die, so if you are at home thinking the worst, hang in there, we will all pull through.

Where is the best place for people to check out your music?

Tell us about this months mix?

I started the first couple of sets of my Darkness vs Light show with dark progressive and melodic sounds, weaving in and out of each other, creating a push and pull set of intensity, and relaxation. This week I am going full Techno to showcase my diversity behind the decks.
