Ibiza Club News Radio has been bubbling around in the background for quite a few weeks now. Testing, plotting, dancing to ourselves, preparing for a long winter of great music leading into hopefully the return of summer in 2021. As we celebrate our official launch, it’s time to get to know the residents. This time around, we chat to GUPY…
Hey! Nice to meet you. What’s your name?
What made you want to be a DJ?
well I could say that it all started with my parents and the music that they were into. being raised on Fatboy slim and the prodigy I was was always around electronic music. Then as I grew older my main influencers were the likes of Avicii, Alesso, Deadmau5 and Skrillex. From these guys I really dived into the EDM scene and it helped me through some hard times in my life. When I came to Australia and I was finally able to afford some equipment I was introduced to the House/Techno music scene and it was what I was missing all my life. its safe to say I got completely sucked in. I love everything that underground music stands for and I have really found myself a place where I feel like truly belong
What are your top 5 tunes EVER? We’ll be secretly judging you, so they better be good.
Fatboy Slim – Right Here Right Now
Avicii – Levels
Skrillex – Long Drive
Ben Rau – Holdiay
Deadmau5 – Ghosts N stuff
Whats your favourite club and why?
my favourite club has to be “Home Bar” in Sydney. the Reason for this I because I had the best night of my life there. A DJ called pepperpot was playing and he had the crowd absolutely heaving! I stole a couple of tracks from his set and I always try to work them in to my sets.
Tell us your favourite thing about being a DJ?
my favourite thing about being a dj is when everything is at peak time and you and the crowd are at one. Everyone is entranced in the music and you can feel the energy radiating from the dance floor driving me on. there is an exchange between the crowd and the dj that happens and it is the most magical thing that can happen.
What advice have you been given in life that you found useful?
I never had anyone yo really give me advice, but from what I have learned the best thing to do is to breathe deeple and try to relax if you come across a bad situation. sometimes you can make things out to be worse than they are. you have to look at your “bullshit” meter. you might think your situation so bad but there is plenty of worse things that could happen. I know that in the moment this might not really help at all, but it can help
Lockdowns have been awful for dance music, if you had to make a bet – how do you see 2021 playing out?
I see 2021 being a lot better. everyone has been scared to throw events with all the restrictions put in place. Now everyone is learning what they can do within the new guidelines I am sure that there will be a lot of events on the horizon!
Where is the best place for people to check out your music?
the best place is my Soundcloud.
Tell us about this months mix?
I was just really vbing with this mix, I was dancing all over my room recording it!
