Yet more bad news for Ibiza’s open air venues, as it emerged last week in Diario De Ibiza, that Ibiza Rocks had its license suspended for failing to comply with San Antonio’s noise regulations. The paper reported that the venue had failed to comply with the regulations following an inspection on July 24, while also failing on safety rules involving fire and evacuation.
Only two events were affected by the ban, a gig with alternative rock outfit Wolf Alice on September 14 and a Lethal Bizzle gig two days later. Both gigs were shifted to the Ibiza rocks bar on San An’s beachfront.

However a recent statement by Ibiza Rocks CEO, Andy McKay has refuted those claims, saying that the previous owners of the hotel had failed to update crucial documents.
“The current situation is not about noise, it’s about paperwork. We have been operating within the legal limits set by the national and European regulations all summer and will continue to do so next summer with our continued weekly event programme. Ibiza Rocks Group took over the full lease and management of the hotel on May 31st, 2016, and only then became aware that the previous administration had not updated paperwork following the move of the main stage in 2013, and had not updated the acoustic study to comply with new 2013 acoustic regulations”.
No further gigs are planned for the alternative venue this season after a successful year which saw LCD System, Faithless and Craig David rock the house, here’s hoping it can all be resolved by next year.
