Predictions: A Drum ‘N’ Bass Revivial

by | Dec 12, 2018 | Archive | 0 comments

It’s the time of the week where we put our heads together in the office and come up with something that is sure to send the internet spiraling out of control and have minds bending more than a mountainside road in an Audi advertisement. Well, it’s been a quiet week so this will have to do instead. Our latest Prediction is more of a rowing boat than a Titanic, but it’s a Prediction all the same. So, enough of this faffing about, here it is, our Prediction this week is for a drum n bass revival to take place on the island next summer.

The clubbing industry is a funny old game, one week this is cool and the next week it’s not. The last decade has been full of blow-in fads and throw away genres that come and go quicker than a West End PR can shift a bit of gear on DC10’s terrace but, through all of the nonsense, there have been some staples that just seem to always be there on the periphery waiting for their moment to re-emerge as a musical powerhouse, and then there’s drum n bass, which is a bit shit but just won’t go away.

Love it or hate it, drum n bass has been around for years and has been one of the main sources of inspiration behind some pretty huge subgenres, with grime, dubstep and trap all springing to mind. It reminds us a little bit of trance, as in if you’re a drum n bass fan, you’ll always be a drum n bass fan. Unlike house or techno, where fans seem to flip between whatever is popular and taste each flavour of the month as it emerges.

With such a loyal fanbase, it’s only a matter of time before drum n bass makes a bit of a comeback and we’re predicting that 2019 could be the year we start to seeing it making a resurgence on the island. Dum n Bass parties have always been present on the island in recent years so there is clearly a market for it. The only thing that was missing was a couple of big brand stepping in and taking it to the next level. We’ve heard that there could very well be a Hospital Records night in Ibiza next season, surely this would be the catalyst for a drum n bass revival. Only time will tell.
