When it comes to renting a villa, it can be a bit of a stressful experience! What to rent? Where to rent? Who to rent off of? There are countless questions that can truly make booking a villa a tough experience. In saying that, when the villa is all fully booked in and you’re there lounging in your pool, there’s really nothing like it! It will most definitely change your outlook on holidays.
It’s very apparent though that there’s quite a bit of scamming and fraud that goes on in Ibiza relating to villa rentals. Here at Ibiza Club News, we want to ensure our readers are up to date on everything rental related.
What Do You Really Want?
Before booking a villa, make a checklist with your friends/family with exactly what you want from your villa experience! Do you want a pool? Perhaps Wi-Fi or even a BBQ! Grab a pen and paper and dot down what you’re looking for and you’ll be amazed at how much villas out there are suited exactly to you.
The Villa
A very straight up and easy way to measure legitness of a villa is how long it’s been advertised for! Say you’re looking at one that’s been up for only 2-3 months, it’s either just renovated and freshly advertised or could potentially be a fraud. But say you’re looking at one that’s been up for 3+ years, it’s almost guaranteed to be legit!
Another way of checking the villa itself is looking for reliable Google reviews of the property. Are they good, varied, or negative? These can be a deciding factor in renting a villa.
The Owner
It’s fairly easy for randomers to go onto villa rental sites and advertise a villa with no other intentions than taking your money.
A good way of getting around this is booking directly with a registered company, compared to say a regular person. With a registered company, you’re ensured to get what you pay for, and if they cant fulfill the confirmed service, you’re in a much better place to get money back.
Has the advertiser got a number? If so, get them on the phone and get chatting to them! If they’re legit, they’ll have no problem at all chatting and ensure you’re feeling confident about the whole process!
Payment
When it comes to the payment side of things, it’s most definitely the most worrying part!
Before making any purchase, be sure to get a written contract of the full run-down of:
- What you’re getting for the price of the villa
- Any added costs that will be added on arrival
- Security deposits – Always ensure that it’s not higher than 10%, as this is clearly too high.
How exactly are they asking for payment? Are they asking for the whole fee up front or are they offering different ways of paying? Some well-known scammers use Western Union as a quick way of transferring money, as it’s completely untraceable. People actually do get scammed when doing bank transfers as they are not insured. Always use a credit card is the advice we give.
Arrival & departure
As you arrive at your amazing villa, you’ll more than likely get a tour of the house with the owner/agent and as you walk around, be sure to keep a close eye on any damage and alert the person immediately to avoid any conflict in the future. As from reports at Ibiza Club News, people have informed us that tenants can try to scam some money by saying you’ve damaged a certain part of the villa when in reality, it’s been there before you even arrived!
If you’re halfway through your visit and you find something that wasn’t done by you, take a photo of it immediately and make contact with the agent, 90% of the time everything is fine! Just be wary.
In saying that, for just a few quid each, you don’t have to leave a big security deposit and no worries if anything is broken accidentally – naturally, Ibiza Villas 2000 are one of the few villa companies to offer this in-house service & will gladly organise on behalf of the group.
Always remember to get back the security deposit when you leave as well, as some people tend to forget!
Book Early
It’s a fairly well-known tactic for any holiday buyer! Booking in advance will save you a large amount on extra fee’s that tend to rack up closer to your arrival date. You’ll also be in with a better chance of getting a bigger selection of villas.
But it’s also worth noting that if you’re planning a last-minute dash, you can get some INSANE discounts – check the company blog for blags!
