There are few tracks that capture the sound of one particular summer as well as Layo & Bushwacka’s Love Story does. All you need to hear are the first couple of opening notes before the vocal kicks in and you’re automatically transported back in time to 2002. A time when the hedonistic spirit of Ibiza was in full swing with parties literally going on for days on end.

Love Story is regarded as one of the biggest house tracks of all time and is seen as the track that really launched Layo & Bushwacka! from underground artists to one of the most influential recording artists of their generation. The track, released on XL Records, features samples from Nina Simone’s Rags & Old Iron and Devo’s Mongoloid and charted at number four on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Party Chart.

2002 was a big year for the music industry, although news of Michael Jackson dangling his baby over a Berlin balcony and Justin Bieber and Britney Spears breaking up seemed to steal the headlines. In actual music news, Eminem had the biggest selling album of the year with The Eminem Show and Christina Aguilera released her second album, Stripped, which contained, much to the delight of teenage boys all over the world, the single Dirrty.

The world was deep in the throes of a wizard frenzy with Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings movies dominating the big screen. While in the world of sport, Brazil won their fifth World Cup in Korea and Japan, beating Germany by two goals to nil in the final held in Yokohama.

In the tech world, it was a big year for Apple who launched the second generation of the iPod, with a staggering, at the time, memory of 20Gb. It was also a memorable year for phones as Sanyo released the SCP-5300, the very first phone to come with a built-in camera.
